In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury uses many different types of literary devises to add to his characters. "The thought had been with him many times recently but now he remembered how it was that day in the city park when he had seen that old man in the black suit hide something, quickly, in his coat." This is an example of imagery and of a memory Montag has of Faber. This keeps the audiance in touch with Montag and gives a more personal feel. 

When Bradbury says Montag "-was a shrieking blaze, a jumping, sprawling gibbering mannikin, no longer human or known, all writhing flame on the lawn as Montag shot one continuous pulse of liquid fire on him. (Beatty)" At this point Bradbury shows how crazy and uncontrollable I am become, how insane I am in the mind. The themes would be how no books can really hurt people in the mind and make them feel divided.

It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and changed. With the brass nozzle in my fists, with this great python spitting its venomous kerosene upon the world, the blood pounded in my head, and his hands were the hands of some amazing conductor playing all the symphonies of blazing and burning to bring down the tatters and charcoal ruins of history. With my symbolic helmet numbered 451 on my stolid head, and my eyes all covered in orange flame with the thought of what came next, I flicked the igniter and the house jumped up in a gorging fire that burned the evening sky red and yellow and black. I strode in a swarm of fireflies.

Faber's Letter

Dear Montag,
     
       How are you my friend? I heard about the lady on Elm street and let me tell you that is quite a tradgety. It's so bad that someone that was standing up for what they beieve in would be lit on fire with all of their books. I wish I had the courage to stand up for what I belive in, but unfortunately I do not. We need to do something to try and make a difference before there is no chance of change.

Dear Montag,

         I don't understand your recent obsession with books. Maybe that girl you have been talking to has gotten wired and twisted in your mind. I was once like you, curious, excited, felt that there was something beyond my control. I wanted more and thought I could keep quite about it. Just look at the Woman on Elm Street. She thought that she could just walk on water with her books.  The truth is no. Everyone must be equal and ill be damned if you try and change it.            
       I sent the hound around your place. Should of gotten the hint when you saw his beaming green eyes. I burn books with a fiery vengeance,  I claim to hate them, yet I quote them almost like a passion. Literature is contradictory. It is confusing. It is treacherous. It will force you to answer the questions that you never wanted to ask.  Soon you will learn his lesson and follow the law. Maybe the recent alarm at the firehouse will catch you as a surprise.  I don't mean to play the devils advocate but what you are doing is not right. So go ahead Montag, I dare you, read the books and see what happens. Go against the law.

           It's about the fire a while ago. When that old lady on Elm Street burned herself up... It hit me somewhere down deep, why would she sacrifice her own life for those books? Why did she live her whole life in constant fear just so she could protect the books? Maybe there is actually something in those pieces of paper that we should take a look at! I know I sound crazy but this is something I really believe in! Write back soon!

1. I stick to my job, its all I seem to have sometimes. I release what builds up inside of me through my job. I am bold, strong, confident, and eager in most cases. I enjoy watching my hound, he gives me something to do while sitting in the station. Montag fears him, but I don't think it is anything to worry about unless he is making a crime..

6 Things About My World (Montag)

1. We have firemen who go out and burn all books. I am one and have been one for many years. My father and his father before him were firemen also. So I feel like I am supposed to uphold this tradition.
2. When we go out and burn down houses and soak them in kerosene I feel a twinge of guilt, knowing that someone has worked so hard on making that story and we're just burning it up.
3. I am tired of Mildred always inside of the house and always listening to her "Family" Why can't she talk to me for once? Why don't we go outside and talk like that girls uncle and her do?
4. The mechanical hound makes me very uneasy, the way it looks at you with its cold eyes and how it moves the needle in and out.
5. Sometimes I don't like how everything is so fast and quick. It's like we try to cram everything in as fast as we can! Advertising, TV's, Stories...
6. I  secretly keep books in my AC vent, don't tell anyone, its just that... I'm curious about why we would burn something so nice to read.
